Magic Umbria
you ever been in Umbria?
I have been there for May 1 of the bridge and I could taste the magic of this wonderful place (apart from the name of the country where I was! ed)
No wonder this is the land of saints who have left an indelible mark and still draws Millions of pilgrims from all over the world.
Assisi
It 's the native land of St. Francis (1182-1226), founder of the Franciscan order, and known worldwide as a city symbol of peace.
Here you can visit the Basilica of San Francesco which is divided into two sections: the bottom, painted by the most illustrious artists such as Giotto and Cimabue houses the crypt with the remains and relics of the saint (as the habits and other objects) the upper part is used instead of the liturgical functions of an official nature, as evidenced by the presence of the papal throne in the apse.
Just outside the center is located the Church of San Damiano, a building of modest size became famous because it hosted for a long time the crucifix that spoke to St. Francis ("Francis, go and repair your home ...) and that but now can be seen in the Church of Santa Chiara with the remains of the saint.
climb for 5 miles to the slopes of Mount Subasio stands the Hermitage of the Carceri, a very evocative of the landscape where beauty merges with peace and tranquility of the forest ilex and where St. Francis and his followers retreated into the contemplation and prayer.
Santa Maria degli Angeli
The country is named after the famous sixteenth-century basilica because it hosts the "Porziuncola," the small church where St. Francis died October 3, 1226 Santa Clara, where he joined the Franciscans.
Cascia
